Best snow tubes

Winter sports are among my favorites. I learned several as a child, and now I cannot get enough. I can’t wait for my winter vacation, so I can go up a mountain at a resort and have some fun for about a week. Even so, one of my favorite activities is by far snow tubing. It is fun, it does not require much skill, and I have a ton of good memories with a snow tube.

Snow tubing is rumored to have appeared as early as the 1820s in the Alpine Mountains. I do not know about that, but I am sure that snow tubing then cannot be compared to snow tubing today. Why is that? Mostly because of the snow tubes. The models you find these days are way superior, and that has something to do with the discovery of more suitable materials, so to speak.

Why you should have your own snow tube?

People do not usually buy their own equipment, and I have never understood why. Of course, there is the fact that winter resorts provide rentals, but I do not find that very convenient. I bought my own snow tube, and here is why:

  • It is a one-time expense – snow tubes are not the cheapest of investments. A high-quality snow tube can go as high as few hundred dollars. I would not go as far as spending that much when there are well-made snow tubes for a lot less, but some people do. The reason behind that is that if you go snow tubing, you need to pay a fee every time you rent a tube. In the long run, that is a poor investment. Your own snow tube is a one-time expense. Unless you blow it every year. Blowing a rental service’s snow tube will cost you even more. The point is that it is cheaper to have your own snow tube rather than renting one.
  • You do not have to worry about blowing it – as I mentioned above, when you rent a snow tube, you must always be extra careful not to blow it up. If that happens, you need to pay it as if it were new, and nobody likes that. Of course, that does not mean you have to blow up your own, but I think you get the point. Someone else’s snow tube will always cost you more. Furthermore, winter resorts usually go for high-end products. They need their tubes to be durable, which is why they buy more expensive tubes. I think you can see where I am going with this.
  • You can go somewhere other than a resort – when you go to a winter resort, worst case scenario is that you rent a snow tube. But what if you want to go to a more secluded place? You buy your own. It does not limit you in any way. You can use it in your backyard for that matter.
  • It is available 24/7 – I do not know about you, but I went to those busy ski resorts during the holiday season. So many people go there. That may prove to be tricky as far as equipment rental is concerned. It is possible for you to not find what you want. After all, you need a suitable snow tube. You do not want to end up with a kid-size snow tube, do you? That is why owning your own snow tube is better. It is your own, and it is available all the time only for you.

How to choose the best snow tube?

Now that I convinced you that owning a snow tube is better than renting one let’s get to the part where I teach you how to choose the best snow tube without too much hassle. For one, do not go out and buy the first product that you see. There is more to a snow tube than meets the eye. You need to establish some criteria and take it from there. If you have no idea what those are, here is a short list that should help you.

  • Size – not all snow tubes are created equal. There is no one-size-fits-all kind of thing. There is a huge difference between a 120-pound person and a 200-pound one. The bottom is not as big, is it? That is important because you want to avoid accidents. Winter sports accidents occur every day, and it mostly happens in recreational instances due to improper use of the equipment. That is a fact. The most common size people buy, though, is between 40 and 50 inches in diameter, I do not condone using a too large snow tube or a too small, but if you know how to snow tube, let’s say that your experience will not necessarily end badly. However, under no circumstance, you should allow your child use an adult-sized snow tube. That is self-explanatory, I presume. Kid-sized snow tubes exist.
  • Construction – as you can imagine, a snow tube needs to be durable so that it lasts for a few years. I do not think there is such thing as a snow tube that lasts a lifetime, but at least a couple of years. As far as snow tubes go, the best material is polyester or nylon. Non-rip nylon is a bit more expensive than polyester, and it is not as slippery, which is why all the snow tubes I have ever bought were made of polyester. I was satisfied with it. One of them lasted for 3 years, and I only paid like $20 for it.
  • Bottom vs. no bottom – while most snow tubes are designed with a base, not all of them have one. My advice is to go for a bottomed snow tube. It is safer, more comfortable, and your bottom will not get as cold. Vinyl bottoms are the best you can go for.
  • Weight capacity – I almost forgot about that, but it is just as important as all the other criteria. If you follow the maximum weight capacity of a snow tube, not only that you will be safer during the slide, but the snow tube will last longer. The maximum capacity is set for a reason, and if you choose to ignore it, you are going to have a bad
  • Do not forget about the handles – I saw a lot of models that do not have handles, I cannot figure how people use those. I need to get a hold of something while I slide. It makes me feel safer and more in control. Also, the handles make the snow tube more comfortable to carry. Whether the handles are made of nylon or polyester, it does not really matter. The snow tube must have handles, and that is pretty much it.

What are the best snow tubes?

Since I gave you all the required information, you should be able to make the right decision on your own. Reading some snow tubes reviews online should also help. If none of that is for you, r if you do not have the patience, you can always go for one of the models below.

A-DUDU 47-Inch Snow Tube

I chose to open with this one because it is one of the models I currently own, and it can guarantee that you will be just as happy as I am with it. Just as the title suggests, this is a massive 47-inch snow tube that can guarantee you an entire winter of fun. While it is large enough for pretty much all the members of the family, I do not recommend that children under the age of 13 use it. Buy a smaller one for your kids.

The tube is made of high-quality material. The manufacturer used ultra-environmental protection PVC. The seams technique is excellent, and all that makes for a comfortable and highly durable snow tube. It can also withstand a person that weighs up to 500 pounds, which you have to admit that it is something. The bottom is extra thick, and it has an anti-scratch feature that will make this snow tube basically untearable.

The A-DUDU snow tube has a high tolerance to low temperatures. It can go as low as -40 degrees. It is pretty easy to inflate. I use a hairdryer, and it goes up in about a minute. The inflation mouth is pretty big, so deflation is quick as well. Also, the valve features a double-locking mechanism so that the air stays inside the whole time you are using the tube. As I said, I am more than satisfied with it. You will be too.

If the A-DUDU is not for you, then maybe you will like the Bradley snow tube. It is a large 48-inch tube with which you will have a lot of fun. It is suitable for the entire family since it has a maximum weight capacity of 400 pounds. It is big enough for two medium-sized people to on a ride, or one adult and a child.

The tube from Bradley is made of high-quality polyester canvas and a super slick Rapid Glide bottom. The bottom, while slick, it is highly durable no matter which is the environment where you choose to go tubing. Overall, this is a durable product, and chances are that you are going to enjoy it for years provided that you inflate it properly.

The Bradley snow tube has 2 sewn-in handles that will make you feel safer while riding. It also features a patent-pending sewn-in tow loop and strap that secures the tube and cover. The seams are flawless, and the inflation mouth is large enough for fast inflation and deflation. You can use an air compressor or a hairdryer.

Last but not least, the snow tube from SnowTTTTTube is yet another option that you can try. I know that there are many Ts in the title, and no it is not a typo. The manufacturer wanted to have some fun I guess. However, this product is still one of the best snow tubes you can enjoy, and I am sure you will like it very much.

As the title suggests, this is a smaller snow tube with only 39 inches in diameter. I think this is a model more suitable for kids. Also because the maximum capacity is 180 pounds. The material used for the manufacture of this snow tube is environmental protection PVC with flawless seams, smooth weld. It is highly durable, and just in case you blow it, the package includes a patch kit.

This snow tube has a high tolerance to cold temperatures (-40 degrees). It is easy to inflate thanks to its large mouth, and both inflation and deflation are fast. The valve has a dual-locking mechanism that makes the tube perfectly airtight. For your safety, the manufacturer added two high negative pressure operating handles.

My recommendation

I suppose all three products are high-quality, and no matter which one you choose, you will have a lot of fun with it. However, my personal favorite is the A-DUDU 47-Inch Snow Tube. What is there not to like? It is cheap but highly durable. It is still going strong. There is not a single scratch on it. I think it is one of the best snow tubes you can find in this price range.

Snow tubing is an easy winter sport. It does not require much skill, and you will have a lot of fun with a snow tube. Your entire family can enjoy one. However, the quality of the snow tube matters and I can guarantee that one of the models above meets that standard. Click here to buy on Amazon
